free hearing services for eligible pensioners...

Eligible Australian Pensioners are able to access free and subsidized hearing healthcare under the Commonwealth Office of Hearing Services Program.  This includes a full hearing assessment, a customised hearing rehabilitation program including the provision of free or subsidized hearing aids (if appropriate) and ongoing aftercare and re-evaluations.

The Audiologists at AudioClinic Tasmania are accredited to provide government assisted hearing care for eligible pension holders.  Applying is a simple process.

apply to the Office of Hearing Services...

New patients to the Program can download the application form here, have it signed by your Doctor (GP) and post it directly to the Office of Hearing Services in Canberra.  Once received, the Office of Hearing Services will issue out a Hearing Services Voucher for you to bring along to your first appointment.  It takes around 5-6 weeks for your voucher to be posted out to you.  When you receive your Voucher, give us a call on 1800 057 220 and we will arrange a test for you with one of our Audiologist.

what does the hearing services voucher entitle me to...

The hearing services voucher entitles you to a full hearing assessment with our Audiologist.  The test appointment is also the time when we discuss with you the type of hearing difficulties that you are having - ie. the listening situations you find most difficult and what you would want hearing aids to be able to achieve for your particular lifestyle.  Depending on the type of hearing loss that you have, your Audiologist will then guide you to make an informed choice as to the model of hearing aid is most suitable for your hearing, communication needs and budget.

voucher holders are entitled to FREE digital hearing aids...

If you are suitable for hearing aids, your audiologist will discuss with you the most appropriate model of hearing aid for your hearing needs.  You see, finding the right model of hearing aid is not just about the degree of your hearing loss. We take the time to talk to you about the different types of listening (social) situations that you are in.  As a general rule of thumb, the more diverse the types of listening situations you find yourself day-to-day, the more advanced the hearing aid needs to be in order to manage the demands of our modern social interactions.

THE GOOD NEWS is that as a Voucher Holder, you are entitled to have a pair of FREE high quality digital hearing aids.  As a Voucher holder, you can also chose to use the value of your Voucher toward subsidized Top-up hearing aids which have additional features that might be beneficial to your needs.  Your audiologist will clearly outline the benefits and limitations of both categories of hearing aids for your particular situation, so that you can make an informed choice for your hearing health.

and it doesn't stop there...

Whether you choose to be fitted with the free or top up hearing aids, you can elect to participate in the Annual Batteries and Maintenance Program.  This program entitles you to have unlimited batteries for you hearing aids for 12 months, as well as cover for your consultation and repairs costs for 12 months for a small fee each year.  Department of Veteran Affair's Clients are exempted from paying this fee.  We strongly recommend all of our government clients to participate - don't forget to speak to your audiologist about this at your appointment.

ongoing monitoring and support...

Along with the Commonwealth, we are also commited to making sure that your hearing aids are working optimally on a long term basis, and as such, your voucher also entitles you to have a quick hearing check and adjustment 12 months from what you first get your hearing aids.  This is highly recommended as our hearing do change over time, and this is an important part of making sure that we are always getting the very best results achievable from the hearing aids.

The voucher cycle is 2 years so at the end of the two years you can re-apply for a new voucher and we can book you back in for another full assessment and reevaluate your progress with your hearing aids.

keep the batteries coming....

Like all other electronic devices, hearing aids require batteries to work.

Due to size constraints, hearing aid batteries tend to be small and so require changing every fortnight or so (depending on the size)

  • Unlimited supply of batteries for 12 months
  • Free repairs to your current set of hearing aids
  • Waived Consultation fee for minor adjustments and aid checks.
  • All in all a very good idea!
